Occupational Noise-Induced Hearing Loss among Migrant Workers in Kuwait

Although the effect of hearing loss on years lived with disability (YLD) is quite substantial, occupational among migrant workers significantly under-studied. In Kuwait, where nearly two-thirds population are workers, burden noise-induced (ONIHL) unknown. The objective study was to assess prevalence ONIHL in Kuwait and explore workplace individual risk factors that associated ONIHL. We obtained data annual physical exams for year 2018 conducted by Shuaiba Industrial Medical Center (SIMC) all industrial area. applied univariate multivariate logistic regression models estimate effects characteristics A total 3474 visited SIMC an exam. vast majority were men (99%) non-Kuwaitis (98%) a median age 38 years. 710 diagnosed 20.4%. Age, experience, self-reported exposure noise statistically significant higher odds When adjusted age, other level factors, type industry not predictor uncovers worker subpopulation area health often underestimated or unrecognized. laws regulations place prevent control workplace, onus local authorities ensure necessary training controls aimed reduce exposure.
